Last night when we went to check heifers there was freezing rain. Freezing rain/snow at midnight. Woke up this morning to feed and had snow. Crunchy, crispy snow. It wasn't cold at all. Right at freezing.
Freezing rain.
Replacement heifers.
1st calf heifers.
We keep our best saddle horses close to the barn in case we need them to get a cow in. Day or night.
I also feed the quail and pheasants around the barns.
Thanks for stopping by.
And so the chaos of calving begins! Best wishes for a great calvings season to you, Miss C.
ReplyDeleteYour Hereford girls are so pretty.
We got a little (2-3") of snow last night and it is 7* this morn. Glad to see a little snow to cover up all the brown. Hopefully the snow will stick and our next windy day won't be so dirty.
You will be busy with that many calves coming. I hope you have lots of help. It's interesting that your calving season starts in January. But if you have suitable weather it makes sense.
ReplyDeleteBitter cold around here. a lot of work many people don't realize what it takes.
ReplyDeleteAnd so it begins in earnest. Long nights and tired days. All will go well and you will see happiness at the end. I wish we were over there with you. I got a fresh pot of coffee on.
ReplyDeleteSo you are making mosaics---how?

Good luck to you in calving season. We have 6 more weeks before we start the madness. I'm taking advantage of the lull in activity.
ReplyDeleteBrrrrr! We had our 2nd and 3rd live babies from heifers yesterday, so the madness begins in earnest. Good luck with it all!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for easy calving and decent weather to calve in!!!
