There are 3 super moons this year. The first full moon after the June 21 solstice. Around this time of year, in North America, buck deer start growing
antlers, thunder storms rage and farmers struggle to pile up hay in
their barns, according to folklore, we call this full moon the
Buck Moon, Thunder Moon or Hay Moon.

Thanks for stopping by.
Now those are fascinating names and they don't come from astronomers. Folk names have a lots of history behind them.
ReplyDeleteWe both got a picture of the Moon last night. Not your color---is that from the fires? It came up over the hill here about 11 o'clock. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteI did not even attempt to get any photos...these make me wish I had. That last is awesome.
ReplyDeleteMoon is/was always a fascinating subject for me, till Armstrong decided to take that giant leap for mankind.
ReplyDeleteI can still see that lady sitting and reading a book......

ReplyDeleteOh wow that is a super moon indeed!! Absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGood shots! Thunder Moon is what we call it...always seem to want to rain on the second cutting of hay. So far so good...fingers crossed!
