Splittin replacements

Today we weaned our replacement heifers. The fat little heifers averaged 660 pounds! Little pigs. Ha ha! Most of the cows had already weaned the calves on their own. But they still get upset when they are separated. Now the heifers will go on the bunk until the end of March. It was a little chilly, but not below zero and no wind. A nice day to work cattle.

Bringing the heifers and mama's into the sorting alley.

My best little cowgirl helper. She keeps the cows a movin along.

A gorgeous winter sunset. The clouds look like feathers.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I wish cows had weaned their calves when I was still on the farm. I'll never forget the bawling for two days after cows and calves were separated. Feeds are not picking up my blog. I'm still posting. You'll just have to click on me to get the post.

  2. Looks like a nice day to be a-horseback. You will have to explain 'go on the bunk' to some of us.
Sky shot is beautiful. Sunup and sundown have been colorful here too. Mt. rainier from the big house have been gorgeous. MB

  3. Loved the photo perspective on horseback. Our "horses" are 4-wheelers around here. Sounds like you got good gains on the calves this year. I love sunrises and sunsets all year 'round, but I do think the cold makes for even more beauty. Have a good weekend, Cheri!

  4. Wow 660 pounds?! Actually I'll be giving them a ruin for their money if I keep eating all these Christmas chocolates!!

  6. That sunset is wonderful! Wondering how cold it is/was there while you were out working. LOL at the comment above--from Optimistic Existentialist...about giving the calves a run for their money if they keep eating the Christmas chocolates!

  7. Winter is looking pretty good down there. That's a nice weight for the heifers to start the winter with.
