Some sights around the ranch today.
A blue heron. These are the coolest birds to watch hunt mice. There are 2 big rookeries along the creek. If you haven't seen heron land in a tree, they're not very graceful too say the least.
Not sure what kind of duck this is. There are all types of ducks on the creek and lakes here. And geese.
Love the hawks. They also nest in the trees. Baby hawks are quite a sight! Only a mother could love.
Mr. Pheasant. We had a good hatch of pheasant's this year.
Wild turkeys. These here are the guys. The hens still have the babies tagging along. Had another great hatch of turkeys. There were 8 of them.
Mama's and babies. They were in the pasture with the deer. I couldn't get a picture with both of them. No hat racks yet!
Mama's and babies.
The moon tonight.
Thanks for stopping by.
Great photos! What beautiful things to see! I never see pheasants around here, which is sad! That's exactly how I would like my herd to look like in your mama's and babies photo!
ReplyDeleteI loved all the photos of the visitors to the ranch. When I took suppers to the field last night, I saw a bunch of pheasants along the way. They'll probably clear out about the time for hunting season. What a pretty night sky!
ReplyDeleteOh this post just makes me happy the shots are gorgeous and now I am heading to the bush I feel the need to surround myself with beauty like you. B
ReplyDeleteLook at all these wonderful creatures!! That Blue Heron looks majestic and that hawk is beautiful. Is that a Red-Tailed hawk??
ReplyDeleteIt's a first for me to see herons out on the open range. Herons killing mice sounds fine with me.
ReplyDeleteDig those ears on the mulees!
Wow! What a wonderful series of photographs. You do have a plethora of animals to take pictures of out in that beautiful land of yours. Nice to hear from you. Our blue herons fish. I've never seen one hunt for mice. Quite amazing! BTW, your mother loves that word, "plethora." :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing how many birds/wildlife you have that is similar to us! We have blue herons randomly too (what a clumsy bird, lol) and lots of pheasants and ducks, geese, hawks, deers, even cows ;) but no turkeys (which I dont mind)
ReplyDeletePure pastoral beauty!
ReplyDeleteNo it's Lowell who likes the word 'plethora'. He uses it all the time so I just mock him. hahaha!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures--all of them. I like the Hawk in the air. How do you do it? Mama's and babies lookin' good. Is that Jupiter or Venus along side the moon?
I'm glad your turkey band is growing----are we having thanksgiving at your place again??????

WOW....I's hard to imagine there will be something to take a picture of this weekend that you haven't already done and done so well! So, I had better make sure we pack a lot of batteries for MB's camera because there will be a mile if clicking going on and some great shots will certainly evolve too.

The wildlife around your ranch is amazing . . . we have to get out of town to see this. It must be wonderful living on a ranch :)
ReplyDeleteReally liked this series of shots! Love the lighting in some...sure you know the ones I mean. Even though I have seen the herons land in trees, I just don't think they belong there some how or other. LOL
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness what fantastic pictures, absolutely beautiful - you're so talented with a camera. Thanks for sharing - Love it!

Those are just amazing pictures! I think one of my favorite birds are the pheasants!
ReplyDeleteOh, how gorgeous the homestead is today! Thanks for letting us enjoy it with you. The little ones are cute as a button. Gotta ask. What's a "hanging tree" dog?
ReplyDeleteVery nice post, it is good to have you on board.
ReplyDeletegreat pics!...nature at it's best..simple and beautiful.thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove your sky, complete with a star! Your other photos are really very special also. We have no pheasants anymore. The Game and Fish guys planted foxes in our world, which took away the pheasants.

Such great pictures. I love the one of the light behind the deer, how it's ears glow. And the cattle, I can almost imagine what it would have looked like 200 years ago with buffalo. What a talent.
