We moved the heifers today, from the Lake Pasture to the Solar Well pasture. Finally got the pump replaced at the solar well. Yes, a real solar well that pumps water into the water tank. We have 3 solar wells on the ranch right now, and working on the 4th. Before the solar wells, the cows would congregate at the creek or other water holes. Now they spread out and utilize the pasture better.
When we were riding, we saw a hawk that looked like it had an injured wing. It was kinda flapping around the rocks. After further looking at the pictures, it looks like it has a bag stuck under its tail? Does it look like that to you? He just blends right in with the rocks. He was hard to find in the camera!

Heifers at the lake.
Dry and Dusty!
The hawk. Does it look like he's got something stuck to him? What do you think?

ReplyDeleteI hope you get some rain soon! We have several solar wells and love them.
Here's hoping you get some much needed rain soon! The lake it surely a favorite spot for the herd.
ReplyDeleteThe hawk is beautiful and it does kind of look like something is stuck to him.
Really nice pictures of the heifers and surrounding area. Cam looks ok too. haha
ReplyDeleteI wonder what is the matter with the Hawk. Mabe he tangled with a plastic bag, They can be killers to any kind of bird. M
We moved 25 heifers yesterday, too, and took a bull to the sale. We attempted the move on Monday, but had to come up with Plan B yesterday. Success! We have one solar well and will add one to another pasture this year. It's sure better than hauling water!
ReplyDeleteIt sure looks like a piece of plastic or something...I don't know about where you live, but around here, almost anywhere you go that is even close to a well traveled road, you will see plastic bags out in the farm fields. Granted it may only be one or two, but still just amazes me.
ReplyDeleteWas going to say, what a wonderful life you live...bet it feels good to sit down at the end of the day...but what a glorious way to get tired.
The heifers are looking good and contented. Nice to have solar wells, that's good management. The hawk doesn't look to me like it has anything stuck to it, he may have injured his wing on a strand of wire or something.
ReplyDeletePictures of the heifers set with sky and landscape have captured scenes that are suitable for framing. You have an eye for beauty and capture it well. My guess is the hawk has been injured by perhaps a predator and his tail feathers have been ruffled and frazzled diminishing their usefulness.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos! The one with the cows in the water is just perfect. I agree with the others that it looks like a plastic bag. I sure hope it was able to free itself!

Thanks for visiting my blog, I keep meaning to get over here and am glad I finally did, looks like nice country you have there!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful scenery you have. I guess with the solar well you won't have to maintain a windmill. Love the Herefords. Don't know about that hawk though.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty country, even though it does look very dry.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures. I want to jump in that lake with them lol. That hawk picture is absolutely amazing.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so peaceful and beautiful. I want to get into the lake too! The hawk may have gotten a plastic bag caught on him. Awesome pictures!
ReplyDeleteOh my your photos are incredible I was thinking how much my girls (heifers) would love to live near that lake instead of the ponds:)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a plastic bag to me too. Poor thing it is so beautiful. Awesome shots. B
